i JUST had an oil change so I didn't think of low oil as a cause of the problem. Ok so I have been having some hesitation on the freeway and thought my car needed to go to the dealer. And in some cases depending upon the direction of the tilt and the amount quite a bit, enough to cause the reading to be low by several bars' worth. I have found with my 2 cars a slight tilt of the car can affect the oil level reading. Just a caution: be sure when you check the oil the car's sitting as level as possible. The increase on volume comes about due to water and unburned fuel build up. Under some conditions the oil level can increase.
It wouldn't be a bad idea to simply have the oil/filter changed now and during this the tech will add the called for amount of oil and verify the oil level sensor/sender system is reporting the correct oil level. You'll have to allow for the fact the oil filter housing oil did not drain so the amount of oil you'll get this way will be less than what the engine contains but it should agree with the amount of oil sans a filter replacement that is required to fill the engine to the proper level. That top most bar/segment should not be lit.Ībout all you can do is drain the oil into a graduated container and from this see how much oil came out of the engine. The oil level with the car dead level should not be above the max line. The oil level sensor/sender is not intended to provide detail on how much over the max line/level oil there is only that the level is too high.
